Monthly Motto November’ 19

„Play fair – Be honest with you and with the others!“

Holy Scripture: Ps 51,12

„Make me, God, a pure heart and give me a new constant spirit.“

Impulse:

There are many situations where we have to meet the needs of others. Tests at school or at university can be situations like these or social expectations in terms of behavior or appearance. That does not have to be negative, because rules often make living together possible. But still: it is important to give your life a “red thread” and not to lose sight of what you desire and hope in the heart. It is often not easy to recognize that. It can help if we practice it in the company of others who are good with us and to whom we can honestly communicate our wishes. This is how we learn to give our life a direction and to set our own accents, which then do not go at the expense of others but also make their lives more beautiful and richer. And because we can rely on the support of God, we can ask with the ancient prayer from the psalms: “Make me, God, a pure heart and give me a new constant spirit!”. If we live like this, the “red threads” of our lives will become a beautiful and sustainable network for all.

Monthly Motto October´19

„Do your best – comitt yourself completely and with joy!“

Bible: Acts 20,35

„Giving is more blessed than taking.“

Impuls:

“Give your best!” – We use that kind of advice again and again when it comes to motivating someone against a major challenge. But what is that actually: our “best”? I think this is not about contributing anything material. Rather, it means that we should put ourselves in the tasks that we have to deal with every day. To give oneself off may sound risky and unfamiliar, but it brings us into a deep connection with the others. The good that is in each one of us, we should not keep for ourselves but contribute to the good of our fellow men. If we live that way, we will also find allies who share with us their talents and abilities and want to do great things together. So let’s take the risk and “give ourselves away” to the others – then we can only win!

Be a light of peace! (After the song “Accendi la pace” by Gen Verde)

Holy Scripture: Ps 34:15

Seek peace and pursue it!”

Impulse:

You can sometimes get the impression that we live in a rather warlike and restless world. This applies to the major regions of conflict but also to our coexistence in society, where it sometimes goes like “everyone against everyone”. I ask myself, what happened to the great promise of peace that we hear in the Bible? The word from the psalms may perhaps give us a direction: if I really want to make peace, then I’ll start with myself. Peace is more than just giving up violence. It is an attitude of life in which I benevolently treat others and respect them as valuable people, especially the poor and disadvantaged. That’s sometimes hard to do on your own. That’s why we have to look for allies on this path. An ally who always supports us is God himself. With an ancient prayer, we can turn to Him: “Lord, make me a tool of your peace!”. This is how we become bright lights in an often warlike world.
