Monthly Motto December’19

“Be a light for your city!”

Holy Scripture: Jer 29,7

„Seek the common good of the city to which I have guided you and prayfor it. Because in the well-being of the city is also your well-being.” (Jer 29,7)

Impulse:

Imagine, you have a guest and want to show him your city. Where would you start and where would you go with him? You will probably immediately know a few places where you like to be and which are good to show. Surely there are also places you would rather avoid: a dirty river, a ruined block house, a dark alley … These “dark sides” of the city are often a place of hopelessness. To avoid them seems at first to be a natural reflex. But what if we see them as a challenge that we can creatively shape, looking for like-minded people, and making those places a little more liveable? We then not only change the atmosphere in our environment, but also give hope to the people who live there. We are invited to take responsibility for our living space and to be a light to all who live on the dark side of ourc ities.

Monthly Motto November’18

Motto: “Turn it up!”

Holy Scripture: 1 Pet 3:15

“Be ever ready to answer and answer every one who demands an account from you of the hope that fills you”

Impulse:

Maybe you also know this situation: You turn on the TV and get the impression that only bad things happen in the world. The images of wars, famines and natural disasters reach us daily and can quickly leave an impression of helplessness. The question arises: “What can I do in this world of injustice as the the little person I am?”

I think the best answer to that is when we remember all the good things which are in us. The hope that the world can become better can be the beginning of a development. Because who has hope lives differently. The hope for a fair coexistence and a careful dealing with our world is in itself a message that has to be heard and that brings light into the world. So we dare and start directly with it!

Monthly Motto October 2018

Motto: “I believe in the “WE”! “( Gen Verde: Credo nel Noi)

Holy Scripture: Ephesians 4:3

“Strive to maintain the unity of the Spirit through the peace that holds you together”

Impuls

Who has not ever dreamed of being a “superhero” – one who, like Batman, defeats evil with intelligence and supernatural powers. But as great as we sometimes feel: each of us has strengths, but also weaknesses. And we do not have to be superheroes either. The “heroes of everyday life” usually look different from the super heroes of the cinema: they are people who do not constantly circle around themselves, have to set themselves in scene and be in the center, but have the other in view and around to strive for a good relationship. They know that together we are strong. Not ME, but WE.

An African proverb says, “When we cross the river together, the crocodiles can not eat us.” Then we can not only defeat the evil, but also do much good. Then we can sing with Gen Verde: “I believe in the WE!”
